November 2002 - The 240th Anniversary of the Sandwich
240 years ago, one man started a meal revolution that continues today. John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, had no way of knowing how popular his concoction would become - popularity deserving of its own birthday celebration. Today, Americans choose the sandwich for taste and convenience - the reasons Montagu invented it - eating an astounding 45 billion sandwiches a year.

2002 - The Year of the Sandwich
Any way you slice it, many of today’s consumers are choosing nutritious, tasty, and convenient foods. Perhaps burned out with traditional fast-food fare, an increasing number of Americans realize sandwiches are a smart, convenient, and healthy meal. In fact, Americans eat more than 45 billion sandwiches a year.
