2002 - The 240th Anniversary of the Sandwich

today. John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, had no way of knowing
how popular his concoction would become - popularity deserving of its own
birthday celebration. Today, Americans choose the sandwich for taste and
convenience - the reasons Montagu invented it - eating an astounding 45
billion sandwiches a year.
